Description
Park your car in the Arches parking area. Walk 300 meters back along
the road you drove on. The trail marker is green. Following the trail,
descend into the small sand trench. You arrive at an offshoot of the Timna
riverbed, here you'll turn to the west along the trail and after a short
incline you'll be standing in the "Field of Plates". Actually
these are ancient structures from the copper mining era at Timna from
the Egyptian era between 3300-3500 BCE. Continue up to the Arches Observation
point. a beautiful observation area where you'll see two of the arches.
Continue along the green path to the footsteps of the arch. If you are
afraid of heights, you can turn down the dry riverbed, back towards the
parking area.
Climb the ladder to the apex of the arch. Take a deep breath of clean
Timna air. Continue on the path to the cliffs edge. Hold onto the handrail
and continue until you reach the "porch" that looks out over
the scenery and on the "new" arch, the southern cliffs of Timna,
the rise to Har Berach, , and the Timna Valley below. Along the horizon
lie the Edom Mountains to the north of the Timna cliffs.
While holding on to the rail, you will descend and "hop" you're
down. Here the green trail meets the Red trail. If you continue on the
Red trail you'll have another 90 minutes of walking. Take along the description
of the Red trail and, of course, plenty of drinking water.
Have a great trip!
